I suspect they depend heavily upon your area. Some press outlets in smaller markets are hungry for info on local businesses while newspapers/TV/radio in larger markets will want a real hook that goes beyond the “Mary Doakes was promoted to Vice President” or “International Widget rolled out its 100,000th widget on Thursday.” Knowing and cultivating press contacts is one that many of us neglect.
